Heaton Bay Campground & Picnic Area - Open

2008 OPERATING SEASON 5/23/08 - 10/05/08

Located between Frisco and Dillon on the Dillon Dam Road, the Heaton Bay Campground has 83 camping sites, vault toilets, water and garbage services, paved roads and a stay limit of 10 days.  Within the Heaton Bay Campground boundary is the separate Heaton Bay Picnic Area which has 7 picnic tables and a vault toilet.  Just outside the boundary of Heaton Bay Campground is the Giberson Bay Day Use Area which has 3 picnic tables, a vault toilet, 2 improved fishing pad sites along with shoreline access for the fishing public.  Both Giberson Bay and Heaton Bay Day Use Areas require a use fee which is paid on-site.  The Heaton Bay Campground sits at an elevation of 9,044 feet.  Reservation sites can be found on B, C, D, and E Loops.  Loop C has water and electrical hook-ups (you must pay for the electric service even if you don't want to use it).  The only loop on a First-Come, First-Serve basis is A Loop.  Loop D is better suited for tent camping.  Note - all reserve-able campsites revert to a First-Come, First-Serve basis if they are not reserved for the night, please check with the campground host to make sure the site is not reserved.  Camping fees are per night. All campsites are allowed 10 people and 2 vehicles only, with a maximum vehicle length of 50 feet.  An extra vehicle fee will be charged for vehicles above the 2 vehicle limit.  Discounts may be available for day use fees at Giberson Bay Day Use Area and Heaton Bay Picnic Area.  Also discounts may be available at Heaton Bay Campground for a discount on the camping fees only, not for the electric hook-up.  See campground host or pay station for details on discounts. The Dillon Ranger District DOES NOT make reservations, you must call Recreation.Gov at 877.444.6777 (you must mention it is in the White River National Forest) or make reservations online at Recreation.Gov
